One of the best of the many Italian cafes dotting the neighborhoods, this Roosevelt stalwart dishes up killer specials.  Lucky you if it's one in their repetoire of rich wild boar pastas.

Classic Italian dishes reign at Salvatore Ristorante Italiano, including the Fettuccine della Casa, an incredible dish with artichokes and mushrooms in a tomato cream sauce.

Salvatore's boasts traditional southern Italian food and exudes a "you're here - you're family" atmosphere that extends to its staff, many of whom have worked at the restaurant for more than a decade.  The menu is known to be great, but the specials are known to be better.

Salvatore has proven itself an establishment of substance and staying power, thanks to Sal's careful watch over every plate of clam linguine and vitello al limone that leaves his kitchen.

This is the best Italian food I've ever had, and I've traveled around Italy twice.  The waiters (all male) are classy and know what service means.  The specials change daily and are incredible.  A few years ago, I had osso buco on a bed of fresh peas and have never forgotten it.  I've never seen this restaurant reviewed or mentioned in local publications, which is probably just as well because it seems to have a loyal following and is crowded enough already, especially on weekends.
